Never forget
There are more women of colour in the first ten seconds of this music video than in the entirely of season 1 of Girls.
Which is fine, I guess. I think when the show first came out, there were people crying foul about the lack of people of color. Lena Dunham has proven herself to be a problematic person that at this point, it’s more than a tad bit insulting as an Asian American lady to think that she and this show could do my story or the story of any woman of color justice. I think it’s good that she’s recognized that there’s something problematic about the lack of representation of people of color, but this Donald Glover thing is already a bit of a trainwreck.
I actually watch Girls and like the show a lot. There are some aspects of these stories that I find compelling, and I think that Zosia Mamet should really win the Emmy this year for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Shoshanna. I respect the right to dislike the show, too! I don’t mind that Lena Dunham is telling her story, but I really wish that she would stop this nonsensical crusade as the champion of all women or something because really her existence and insistence that she is makes me upset.
